When we buy a house or any other property, we want an inspection to take place before we close the deal on something so important that it could be our biggest asset.
Usually, these inspections include only what can be seen with the naked eye, such as the structure, roof, electrical and mechanical systems. A big mistake and a part that most people skip is the inspection of drainage and sewer systems internally using a specialized CCTV camera.
Unfortunately, most property valuers neglect to check sewer lines and rainwater drains, which can prove to be a critical and costly mistake.
Let’s just say you didn’t check the sewer system, you buy the house, you proceed to renovations, you move in, and a few days later problems arise.
These can be blockages, leakage or even worse, damp and damages to new walls, ceilings or expensive floors, where replacing or repairing them can cost not only money but also a lot of hassle.
Especially in older systems, there is even greater risk of problems in drains and sewers such as fractures, weak joints and root invasion.
Sewer & drain inspection
What causes blockages and other problems in pipelines?
- Roots
Roots are one of the usual culprits found when unclogging or detecting broken sewer pipes, as they constantly try to reach water and cracks in the pipes and weak joints, create easy access for roots to invade.
- Settling
Pipe lines placed on non-solid ground can create low points or bellies in the pipe, and lead to standing water and blockages.
- Pipe Material
Metal, concrete or even clay pipes were used in many older houses for drains and sewers. These are fragile pipe materials that break over time, by invading roots, or changes in soil conditions.
- Poor Installation
The most common installation problems are poor connections, steep corners and wrong slope that prevents the normal flow.
Our advice, do not overlook the sewer and drainage systems, they are often considered unimportant by many, but in fact, they are extensions of the plumbing system of the house. A video-inspection with CCTV cameras will diagnose the condition of the pipelines in time to identify and prevent current and/or future problems.
We recommend regular inspections, for example before and after winter in for rainwater drains, as well as in communal sewer pipes in apartment buildings and small or large complexes.
